In the beginning...

Dominus vobiscum and welcome to my new blog!

The purpose of this blog is quite simple: I will post random musings surrounding two of my favorite subjects — all things theological and anything related to good food. By unpacking theological issues I aim to foster a greater and more fervent devotion to God, our heavenly Father. And by discussing cuisine in general I hope to encourage all of my fellow Americans to appreciate what our French friends call the "joie de vivre" (joy of living). Both good theology and joyous living are too often in short supply!

With any luck, and by God's grace, this blog will be a place to reflect on issues that beset us as sons and daughters of God, ever mindful of God's graceful and enduring yes in the face of all our vexations.

And this page will be a place for me to explore the world of food with you, which, as you all know, has provided not only a decent income for me over the years, but has also been a source of much joy. I can hardly imagine a finer rubric under which I should place this blog than what the prophet Isaiah provides:

On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. And he will swallow upon this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. It will be said on that day, "Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation (Isaiah 25:6-9)

Let the feast begin!
