His Face Did Shine As the Sun!

There's lots to say surrounding today's great feast - the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ, when, in the company of Peter, James, and John, "His face did shine as the sun: and His garments became white as snow" upon that holy mount.

However, I'll only mention two little tidbits, which, in keeping with the theme of this blog, shall wed together good theology and the joy of living.

So first, the joie de vivre: Our sisters and brothers in the Eastern Churches use this day for a rite known as The Blessing of the First Fruits, whereby parishioners take fruits - usually grapes - to the church in thanksgiving for God's provision, and to have them blessed by the priest. So there is the food connection. Practically speaking, when you have that glass of fermented grape juice tonight, thank the Lord for His provisions and ask him to bless all of our work.

Now, here's your dose of good theology. Because of our baptisms into the death and resurrection of Christ, we too - as sons and daughters of the Most High - will one day see not a glimpse of the radiance of the Triune Godhead - as Peter, James, and John didst see - but we shall behold the full and eternal beatific vision of heaven, the incorruptible promise of Almighty God. And that, dear ones, is surely both a cause for joyous living and pondering theology.
